Target has released the first images of its collaboration with Missoni in an unconventional way. No, not with a party or a press release, with a real blogging doll (joints, hinges and all) named "Marina"! To celebrate her debut, the company created a lengthy post on a tumblr account entitled "All The Way Up Here" which we hope will be continuously updated. While we love the brightly colored garments, we are especially excited for the Missoni for Target bike. Wouldn't that just be perfect for getting around during fashion week?

Since 1999 we have set the long table at farms or gardens, on mountain tops or in sea caves, on islands or at ranches. Occasionally the table is set indoors: a beautiful refurbished barn, a cool greenhouse or a stately museum. Wherever the location, the consistent theme of each dinner is to honor the people whose good work brings nourishment to the table.

Ingredients for the meal are almost all local (sometimes sourced within inches of your seat at the table!) and generally prepared by a celebrated chef of the region. After a tour of the site, we all settle in: farmers, producers, culinary artisans, and diners sharing the long table.

To get Pierre Herme to talk about himself, you've just about got to pull the words from him, so when he asks quietly and with a sheepish smile if you've tasted one of his new sweets, it's as startling as if he's made a loudspeaker announcement.

The other day, Pierre asked if I'd tasted the Tarte Sarah. It was just a quick mention, but it sent me to the shop and I'm delighted it did -- the Tarte Sarah is, as the French say, une petite merveille (a little marvel). The elements are a pate sablee crust, a passion fruit gelee, a Matcha green tea cream and tiny pieces of cooked chestnuts. It's a stunning combination. The green tea and chestnut duo is inspired, but my guess is that it would be a little flat and get a little dull after a few bites on its own, which is why the sharp, bright, tang of passionfruit is such a brilliant addition.

You're probably saying, "I never would have thought of that." For sure, it's what I said. But then, neither of us has to think of it -- we've got Pierre.

The original Swiss army blankets are a unique product in many respects! Manufactured from the end of the 1900`s through the early sixties of the last century, their intended use was providing warmth if the swiss would become involved in a war. Stored in caves in the Swiss Alps, they remained there for many years as fortunately that war never came. In the sixties production of this type of blanket stopped. Every once in a while since then, a limited number of these blankets, unused en brand-new, but at the same time pure vintage, have become available.

And then, DEKEN tapped into this hidden treasure....

Made of pure sheeps wool and in various shades of gray-brown, marked with a red and white cross-track, the blankets are hand made and indestructible, typical of genuine Swiss quality. The blankets are individually marked with the initials of the maker as well as the year of production. From the variation in colour of the band and the shape and way of construction of the crosses you can instantly recognize the hand of individual makers; sometimes the bands are more orange, sometimes they have a pretty, clear Swiss cross and sometimes they even have a stainless steel coin or seal. As such, all blankets are different, which is part of the charm. When combining several items from different blankets, the variations in colour and markings match strikingly.

Artichokes with Beet Vinaigrette

4 Artichokes-Trimmed and Boiled for 30 Minutes

Beet Vinaigrette

Ingredients

1 large fresh beet, peeled and trimmed
1/2 cup olive oil, divided
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Preparation

Cut beet into thin wedges; toss with 1 tablespoon oil. Place in a pan.

Bake at 400° for 35 minutes or until tender; cool 15 minutes.

Process beet, remaining olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a food processor until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides.

Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a bowl, discarding solids.
